Welcome to the Frederick E. Turnage Chapter

The mission of the American Red Cross, an organization built upon the unwavering spirit of the American people, has always been to help people help themselves.

The willingness of the people of the American Red Cross to accept the challenges confronting a fast changing society has brought about an explosion of social services from disaster relief to blood services, from first aid programs to swimming lessons to assistance programs for the elderly to HIV/AIDS education. We are an organization that is always prepared, yet constantly reviewing the needs of the community and seeking innovative ways to meet them.

The American Red Cross serving the Rocky Mount, NC region has a rich heritage of caring for our neighbors in our community and today that caring continues.

The Red Cross response to Gustav and Ike and the rest of the 2008 hurricanes continues and will continue for probably months. The Red Cross is there, giving comfort and staying busy behind the scenes, without fanfare or fuss.
More than 100 shelters are open, because many of those who evacuated from Ike cannot go home yet, and those that left ahead of Gustav returned to find their homes without power, damaged or in some cases, destroyed.
Thousands of Red Cross staff and volunteers are in the storm-affected areas, offering those who were in Hurricane Ikes path a safe place to stay, food, toiletries and a comforting ear.
For those affected by Hurricane Ike, it is important to focus first on safety, shelter, food and cleaning up. As these needs are taken care of, it becomes just as important to pay extra attention to the emotional well being of those who have been affected.
The Red Cross has thousands of staff on the ground in Texas and Louisiana, offering shelter, food, and comfort to the millions of people affected by Hurricane Ike.
